How hard is pole dancing?

The honest answer is both yes and no!
Learning to pole dance is hard, just like anything new is hard. Every time you try a new move, you'll probably find it difficult, but once you master the move, it's usually heaven.

THE BASIC POLE DANCING MOVES AREN'T HARD TO LEARN
Pole dancing isn't as difficult as people think, at least not at first! Your dance instructor should start by teaching you moves that you can perform with your current fitness level. As your fitness level and skills improve, you'll learn more difficult moves that suit you.

Many people watch pole dancing videos or instructions and panic. They assume that they'll not be able to perform the moves from any., It's very unlikely that you'll be able to do a deadlift on your first day, even if you try.
However, if you start with a fireman's swing, you'll probably do well enough and have a great sense of accomplishment when you do! The great thing about pole dancing is that if you're taught properly, you're really starting from scratch.
Most classes start with a few simple turns so you can get used to the pole. With each class you take, you get stronger and fitter, and your body adapts to the pole dancing so you're much stronger when it's time to try more difficult moves.

You don't have to start pole dancing with a high fitness level. Many people worry and think that they aren't strong enough to keep themselves upright. While you're working towards moves where you hold your own body weight, many turns use your momentum to move you around the pole, not your strength.

HERE'S WHY I LOVE THAT POLE DANCING IS HARD
As with most things worth doing, getting good at pole dancing will (and should) be difficult. There would be no sense of joy or accomplishment if every turn or trick came so naturally that you didn't even have to try. There are moves that are very easy to learn in one lesson, but there are also some that you struggle with from class to class. The great thing about pole dancing is that you can work on several movements at once. Even if you struggle with one pole movement, there are others you can master in the meantime.

In pole dancing, there are always moments of frustration when you just can't get a move right.
Often, the moves just fit like a glove. Even if you've struggled for months, you may be just one class away from getting it right. As with everything in life, there are "bad days" in pole dancing. Sometimes, for no reason at all, you struggle with even the simplest moves that you know you can do.

This can be frustrating, but it's good to know that such moments don't happen very often or last long, so the next class will already be much better.
