We’ve invited a few of our Lupit family members and ambassadors to share what music means to them and what is their favourite music to dance to. Here we go, get inspired!
1. Estefania
Love Bites - Def Leppard
Kickstart My Heart - Mötley Crüe
Still loving you - Scorpions
What music? Rock. I think the main reason it’s because it was my first approach with the music as my mom was always listening to it on the radio. And I feel rock makes me feel powerful and always brings me energy for everything.
2. Kenneth Kao
I grew up playing a lot of music - and yet at the same time, I was always detached from it. I didn't listen to it except when I played it. But even when I played, I didn't feel the music inside myself. It was more of a kinesthetic challenge than anything emotive. But somehow I still became skilled enough to be recognized for my involvement in my younger years.
After I stopped playing in college, it wasn't until I started dancing that I even paid attention to music again. In fact, my first performance was to whatever top 10 song I found on Youtube. Over time, as I continued to dance and learn about my own movement with the music, I began to understand how movement could be informed by sound, and suddenly, music became very important indeed.
Since, I'm always on a quest to seek out music that I can move to in the way I WANT to move. Sometimes it's strange, and other times - it hearkens back to my past classical training. Whatever the case, it's hard to dance without musical inspiration, now.
I don't know if I have favorites, and it shifts based on mood, of course, but some I find interesting right now are:
ASADI - CROWN
9 Theory - Orale
Hugo Kant - Black Moon (actually a lot of Hugo Kant)
3. Piotr Kopacz
One of the remarkable aspects of music is its ability to adapt and reflect your current state of mind and life experiences. As you navigate different phases in life, music becomes a dynamic companion that evolves alongside you. It can mirror your emotions, capturing the highs and lows, and provide a channel for self-expression and exploration. The melodies, harmonies, and rhythms intertwine with your own personal journey, allowing you to infuse your performances with a depth and authenticity that connects with others on a profound level.
Three of my favorite songs at the moment:
Cenizas - Nicolas Jaar
Portable feat Lcio - Surrender DJ Koze
Grow A Color Encore - Facesoul
Music is indeed highly significant in my human experience as so in my movement journey. It is an important piece of inspiration and an impulse for moving.
I was just explaining another dancer yesterday, how my trainings are shaped along with the music / or silence I immerse into at that specific moment. It is a lead for what I will be exploring through physical abilities.
I dedicate hours to listen music. Allowing also lots of organic research in the sense of being open to any kind of style and artists. Im a consistent user of Shazam ( Shazam is an application that can identify music, movies, advertising, and television shows, based on a short sample played and using the microphone on the device). So helpful. As one of my last post on Instagram said: “People who show you new music are important!!!”
I don’t have a favorite song or songs to dance or to do anything. I use the music accordingly on how I feel in that moment. I create choreographies based on characters or movements that will set my character and from there I select the music that I think it will fit the mood and bring my character alive…
If I want something more upbeat I love U-RITE by THEY.
If I want something more contemporary Loving me by Janine.
And one of my all time favorites is First Fires by Bonobo and Grey Reverend.
Music is one of the most important things in my life, I hear or listen to a song, and in my head I can feel the moves, the steps, the pole or any other apparatus, it's like a movie playing in my head, flowing through a choreography… and explosion of ideas... music can tell so much, if you learn to listen not only to the voice, or the beat, but listen to all the different compartments together… and listen in between… that’s where magic happens.

It’s super hard for me to pick just three songs and name them as my favourite cause it depends on my life period and what moves and touches me at that moment in time, but these three are the ones that I never get bored with:
The slowness of it but THE POWER!
The one that softens me to bits!
Everything making it just perfect for my heart and soul!
So I’m a lyrical dancer when it comes to creating and choreographing but when I freestyle for myself the lyrics come second (cause, as it is, music moves you first) and it’s about the feeling that music makes you feel, somehow powerful and strong enough in expressing whatever feeling you are feeling! Maybe like an alter ego moment I would say or just being vulnerable. And that’s what I love the most about being a dancer, everyone’s heart dances to a different beat and spoken word.
8. Marlo Fisken
Thought this may seem like a simple question, its really not ,since my relationship to music is pretty deep and always changing.
Three favorite songs to dance to (this week). There is no such thing as three favorite songs of all time…
Music guides me to territories, sequences, and textures of movement that I would never find without it. It is my teacher.
Currently My Top 3 Songs to Dance To:
1) Two Weeks by FKA Twigs
2) Seven Nation Army by Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox
3) 9 Crimes by Damien Rice
For me, music and movement are intimately interconnected. Whatever music is playing will creep, seep or plunge itself into my body, mind and heart and allow my control to release and the 'dance' to become the primary force in the room. Sometimes, I may pick music to perfectly describe the way I'm feeling on a given day and, with my body, say all of the things I'm trying to express. Other times, I may succumb to the music and let it tell me exactly how to move. I follow it's direction and happily allow it to lead the way so that my body and heart can let go completely. Music is my driving force.
